I am an ESL teacher in Santiago looking for networking opportunities. Where can I find some gatherings, lectures, or seminars where there might be other ESL professionals or people working in education?

Hi NRP,

I have only been in Santiago since March 4, but I would also love to find networking opportunities in our field.

I'm living in the south, in Victoria (near Temuco) and have been trying to find an English teaching job somewhere in the area for about three months, since obtaining my RUT card. I think that I would have better chances looking for a position in Santiago, but would prefer living somewhere in the South. The networking that goes on (such as it is) seems to be happening in forums like this one (there are others). If there were enough of us or we had enough activity on one of the forums, maybe we could dedicate an online area just for ourselves.

If you write to me and send me your resume, I can give it to a company name that hires English teachers for Santiago. Although a little complicated on this time of the year.

SUGGESTION FOR THOSE WILLING TO TEACH ENGLISH.

School and universities start classes on March and they end in December. Second semester starts in August. So, you need to contact institutions in November-December at the latest to start classes in March. During January and February there are vacation for students.

However, there may be still some opportunities in case of teaching to employees of companies.

Hello,

I was reading your post about teaching in Chile.

I am looking to set up a program specialized in Teaching English as a Second Language to Children (age 6 to 12). I have such a program running here in Venezuela and its running really well for the past 5 years, but since the political and economic situation in this country is really bad, we are looking into moving to another country.

We have 3 different forms of offering our program here.

1. We started out in our own place where we offer classes to children 3 to 5 years old. 2 days a week, each 1.30 hours. 12 to 15 children per group

2. We offer our service to schools where we rent classrooms. The service is then only available for the children of that school. again 2 times a week, 1.30 hours per day and 12 to 15 students. 6 till 12 years old. We follow the same age groups as in the school...offering 1st to 6th grade....our objective is to make sure that we reinforce the English they get in school and give them a head start.
This is offered as an Extra Curricular Activity

3. We offer our service to schools as their English Department. Meaning that we would take on everything that is related to teaching English in that school.

We always work with Interactive SmartBoards and other technology as that appeals well to young learners

Would a business offering these kinds of services work in Chile?

Thank you for your reply.

Kind Regards,

Mike

Would using your skills to help K-12 teachers/coaches/administrators use web based applications be something you'd consider?

If so, please write me at [email protected]
