I'm a little ashamed to ask but, how common are snakes in Chile? I have a deathly fear of them.

In Northern Chile is the Atacama Desert. The driest place on Earth. Nothing can live without water. Iquique is between the desert and the Pacific ocean. There are NO SNAKES in Iquique. Not even bugs. It's not like humid tropical countries like Costa Rica, Panama, or Ecuador. There is no measurable rainfall year-round in Iquique. Water for sustaining life comes from several desalination plants to support the water needs for the @200,000+ people who live there. The city has an in exhaustible supply of water from the desalinization of the Pacific Ocean. The city is expected to double in size within 5 years as there is massive new construction of homes and businesses occurring right now southward of the city. No snakes and no bugs. Endless spring weather with no rain and the most beautiful beach, Cavancha, in all of Chile. Gentle fresh air breezes coming from the ocean every day. No pollution as is found in Chile's capital Santiago. Overall cost of living in Iquique is about half of living in a comparable sized city in the USA.. Greater personal and economic freedoms than in the USA. Check http://www.heritage.org/index/ranking statistics.

NO violence. A peaceful and conservative environment and people. NOT a socialist entitlement country. It has transformed greatly from it's days of military socialist dictatorships of Pinochet and Allende.
The people just elected a huge majority of conservatives in their October elections. The people are determined NOT to go back to the Pinochet and Allende regimes horrible days. What's not to like?
