" Ronald, How''s life in Guangdong? I''m moving to Hong Kong, attending The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Jan. 2001 and was thinking about buying a home. I''ve found some nice places in Guangdong; Have you heard of ''CountryGarden''? Is this a safe place to live? Also, I''m an Engineer from Silicon Valley, USA and would like to do some consulting in my free time. Are you working for a company or have started your own business? thanks -charles "

" Hi Charles, Just got your message through the expatexchange system. I don''t know how much you know about Hong Kong and China. I just want to remind you that Hong Kong is a special administrative region in China. Although it is located in Guangdong province, Hong Kong is not under the control of the provincial government. You need special permit to travel to Hong Kong from mainland China. And it takes hour for you to travel from Guangdong to Hong Kong. Please make sure where you are going to stay before you make any real estate investment. Should you have any question about Hong Kong and China, feel free to contact me. I am much happy to help. I am a local Chinese living in Hong Kong running several businesses like global relocation consultancy, web and fund management. Ivan Chan Director Pacific Properties "

" I have been staying in Liao Bu as factory is close. Next time I will stay in Dong Guan City. It is about 20 minutes by car to work but I would much rather be in the city than stuck in the middle of nowhere. For finding a teacher...I would suggest that you go to where the intellects tend to spend their time - bookstores are great, teahouses and coffeeshops are good too. Especially in the bigger cities like DG. You should be able to find someone. In Taiwan I often taught English in exchange for Chinese. "
