" Hello Richard: I know from experience that Expats do not get health insurance coverage in China, unless a firm offers it to the individual. I have tried getting many jobs as a professor and ESL instructor. Every time I was told China does not live expats insurance: This is up to the individual to get. If you are working for a multinational that is providing the transfer, your coverage continues. Danmark is one firm from which you can buy health insurance from although I was ruled out as uninsurable for being on coumadin. Most schools will let you go to the local doctors and hospitals. I sought Western-practice physicians and was told this is my own responsibility. I was also advised in case of major illness, the best option would be returning to the US for care. We know how much medical care costs in the US, especially without health insurance. Some may say I am ""off."" I can substantiate my position too easily. This is the major reason for not moving to China now as an ESL teacher or business professor. Also, if you go to China and then return to the US, who covers your family for health insurance purposes? I now have a Blue Cross/Shield policy. It expires if I am abroad for more than 30 days, although there may be a few entenuating situations. You should find the schooling desired and at the quality level. Asian students in K-12 tend to learn a lot more than K-12 children in the US. This is a generalization but I rest with it.
