" Personally, I''m overjoyed about the decision! I''ve been in China 8 years, and was actually involved in helping the Beijing Olympic Bid Committee. Yes, things are not perfect, and there are bound to be problems, but overall I think this is a very positive thing for China. Since other topics in here seem not to get many responses, I figured I try something a little different. Please choose your answer from the choices above, and then give a short explanation of your reasons. "

" I cried from excitement. I am Chinese Australian and feel the ties of both. Having enjoyed the euphoria of Sydney last year, I want to see the people of China and the world come alive in Beijing. As it was, the Friday night celebrations in the square felt amazing. Not often that you see the Chinese display such strong emotions publicly. For those determined to overlay the political aspect on top of the decision -- it is perhaps more a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more the Western media paints China in a negative light, the more the current regime is likely to use it as a way to stir up nationalistic sentiment. That being said, nationalistic is not a dirty word. Chinese is not a dirty word. I look forward to a great party in 2008 and want to do everything I can to help. "

I wish that every American could have experienced what I experienced during a recent three month stay in Beijing. I was truly awestruck by how wonderful the Chinese people are. My only regret is that my assignment expired. Hopefully I can remedy that situation soon.
