" Hi. We are considering a move to Shanghai with our infant twins and are looking for some info on day to day life in China with little kids. We are Canadians living in Singapore. My biggest concerns are medical care, and transportation. Buses and subways aren''t really an option with two babies. How feasible is it to get around by walking? And with a double stroller? Thanks! Laura "

" Laura, I''m also Canadian, and have lived in China for 8 years. I lived in Shanghai from 1999-2000, and am fairly familiar with the city. Shanghai is probably the best city in mainland China with regards to health care, and you should easily be able to find clinics/hospitals to meet your needs. I will get more exact info for you...in the meantime, check out the sites at www.chinanow.com and www.thatsshanghai.com, which offer lots of information about what is going on in Shanghai, as well as useful contact information. Transportation should not be too much of a problem. Most of the sidewalks in the downtown area are wide enough for a double stroller (although there are some areas with trees inexplicably placed right in the middle of the sidewalk). I had friends with twins in Shanghai, and they had few problems beyond the normal frustrations of handling two kids at once. You should expect your kids to garner a great deal of attention, particularly if they look foreign (ie. blond hair), and you may have to tell people to leave them alone when curiosity gets a little too much. Although this is not as much of a problem in Shanghai, where they are more used to foreigners, it still happens. Hope this helps! John Lombard "
