Hi,
I am a 31 year old single female who is expecting to receive an offer from a company in Shanghai any day now. I was wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what a 'good' salary is. I realise it's a loaded question but am just looking for a general idea of how much I would have to be making to live well (ie: be able to splurge on the occassional imported foodstuffs like a Sara Lee cheescake, go to a movie a couple of times a month, go out to a nice restaurant for dinner 2 or 3 times a month, buy English books, rent or buy lots of DVDs, take weekend trips around the country, and still save a minimum of $600 per month). All this taking into consideration that accommodation and a yearly ticket home will be provided.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
mercedes

DVD sell for $1.25 to $4 and are in Chinese sub-titles. Western movies may be $15 in a theater but VcD are $1.25 available before release int he States.

Expenses can vary. It generally takes $100 - $150 for a room. Board is aboutt $60 a month.

When arriving at Shanghai you may stay at the Pu Jiang Hotel just of the Bund for $5 a night.

If you go where the middle-class locals go, buy where they shop, go to the same hospitals where they go...it is very cheap!

i.e. USD $1 to see a doctor in a big hospital in Shenzhen.

But if you are into import stuffs..can be more expensive than US.
