Tanggu entry via ship(660 passsengers) is down to $80 from Inchon/Seoul complex. Visa are 35 in three days and each leaves every three days.

Tianjin's COL is lesser than Beijing. Five Dollars from Tanggu vis taxi or 20 cents by bus from International port, where you arrive.

Pro's : Nice Place, very friendly people.
Con's : expat community now very small, not much to do compared with beijing etc.
Try this link for tianjin yellow pages, has all things Tianjin in it,
http://www.esmart.com.cn/
Remember when looking for accommodation here the first price they ask is not the final price.
Some say it is cheaper than beijing, but I have not found to much difference between the two as beijing has more competition esp with restaurants and bars (so maybe cheaper and better quality, just my opinion.)
hope this helps, but on a final note, china is a lovely place and i wouldnt wish to be anywhere else right now. if you come with the right frame of mind and treat it like an adventure (and dont expect everything to be just like home) you will love it!

I lived in Tianjin from 2000 to 2002 and I want to go back. I have an American friend who still lives there and a lot of Chinees friends.
You do not have to worry about a thing. I was more safer there than you are in the states.
I found out now that living is a lot cheaper now than i was there. I lived in the Tianjin International Building. I was going to move out but it was so much eaiser just to pay them than trying to go get money excahnged and run around payinf for utilities. There I had full room service and if i needed any thing for cooking etc it was delivered the same day I requested it with no charge.
Every thing is chaeap. You just have to argue with them on the price when buying I usually used the formula what ever they asked I would offer them 1/4 of that. 99 per cent of the time I got it. It was fun. Culture street is the most popular for things. There is also what we called walking street that is just like shopping in New York. Very modern. The best is in Bejing at Silk row. By the American embency. I loved shopping there.
Like I said I want to go back if I can find a job there. I tell evey one I was born in the right country I just live in the wrong one.
Please fell free to get in touch with me if you need more info.
