Yantai or Shenyang ?

We are considering a move to China for my employer, the choice being Shenyang or Yantai. We know Shenyang has a quite large expat community but how does one survive the climate ?
Yantai on the other hand has a much nicer climate but is there an international school ? Can somebody provide us a contact in the expat community ?
We have 2 small children (2 and 4). Does anybody have experience sending his kids to a Chinese school if there is no int'l school available ?
Thanks for all your help !

Yantai is very remote and is not on the main line from Beijing. I spent two nights by train to arrive there, whereas Shenyang is strategically situated and only an over night by train and the carriages from/to North Korea arrive there and the train to Moscow also arrives and departs there. I suggest Shenyang with it Russian population would be a treat.

I lived and worked in YT for 5 years. The weather is indeed milder and the city is by the sea with nice weather throughout.

YT is not that remote and it's road, railway and air links to the major cities are quite ok. There are also international flights to S.Korea, HK and Japan.

The expatriate community is small. However, most western amenities are available with the most important being coffee houses!! There is a expatriate community organised by Redsun, an expatriate newsletter for Shandong.

I don't think there is a expatriate school in the smaller cities including YT. Enrolment in local schools are not a problem; just approach the school directly.
