Ni hao,

My name is Shawn Wilkes and I currently live in Georgia,
USA. I need some guidance and I have no idea where else to turn to ask for it. I am desperately trying to find a way to move to Nanjing (city of Jia Shan, hopefully), get a job there, and attend school online in the US. I wish to move to Nanjing because the woman I will marry attends school in that province and she and I wish to live together.

I am a 21 year old student who will major in psychology, but
have not obtained any degree yet. I was hoping someone would be able to guide me and help me learn what I need
to do to find a job in Nanjing that meets my skill level, as
well as a way to affordably move there. I am at a loss and
don't know what else to do. I would be greatful for any
advice given.

What are housing expenses? Where do I start?

Xie xie ni,
Shawn Wilkes

I have a couple suggestions. One is, transfer to a university in Nanjing. You may have to switch your major to Chinese studies, or you can just pick up a few credits over the course of a semester or two to transfer back to your U.S. program. That will get you in the country legally and somewhat cheaply (as far as lodging goes).

The next is, get a position teaching English in Nanjing. Usually this requires a Bachelor's degree, but some schools will take non-degreed "volunteers" (they'll still provide housing, a few perks, but you won't get the average pay or the reimbursement of travel expenses). Some schools that are desparate will hire you full on with all the perks if they need someone asap, like if a teacher quits mid-year. We had a friend who only completed less than a year of college who was teaching English in Shanghai in such a circumstance.

Both of these options are the quickest and easiest ways to get to China. Once there, you can look around for something more substantial or something that fits your interests and expertise a little better.

Hope this helps.
