Alien Employment License issue

Hello,

My company may relocate me to Qingdao, China. I am very successful in my field, however, I do not have a college degree (completed 3+ years and decided to start working).

Will I not be able to attain an alien employment license in China?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A tricky one!

Most expats I know have either academic or professional qualification. But that may be coincidence. Why not check with your local Chinese consulate?

You will, however, find that more and more Chinese people in business have degrees and post-grad qualifications, and may well expect you to be similarly qualified. Some older ones can lay great store on how many post-nominal letters you have on your name card, so that you might lose face if you have none

For example: my most senior Chinese colleague in Beijing (ex-red guard, 2*MBAs) told me that she admired my wife because she was the only foreign woman she knew with more qualifications than her!!

Best wishes, Managing Partner, Minim Consulting
