Hi all, I want to keep my cell number from the US while I move overseas, China, for a couple of years. Any tips on how to do this?

US carriers offer international plans. You should do that if you have the money to spend.
You could also do what I do, get a number through skype. Once you are in China you can pay chinese prices for an American phone number in China.
You can even have a Chinese friend (good friend) get a discounted plan for you that lasts one year. My wife got us on a plan where we pay $14.50 per year for the ability to call the US and many other nations, no time limits.
Only hassle is that in China connections can get real choppy depending on where you live.
Good luck.

I suggest getting a Magicjack for your travel. I got 5 years with an American phone number. I talk to the USA everyday and have it on my cell phone here in China. The Android app I dont need to be home to get or call.

very simple, just bring the SIM card with you and put it into a China enabled phone (not all phones from the US work in China, but smartphones etc. do - China uses the international standards, so basically any phone that works in Europe or any other part of the world will work in China). Your phone company in the US might charge you a lot in roaming charges though...
