I want to get a job teaching English in China. I am 62. Does anyone know if and how I can get a job so I can get the z-visa?

i don't think you should be so overconcerned about the visa limit on edge, cause when i looked back into my life at campus in sichuan southwest of china, where one of the foreign teachers was above 60 years old. just try to apply for china visa i believe you will get a satisfactory reply from chinese embassy

Thanks for your encouragement. I know there are some teachers who are over 60, but from my research, they are usually those who first got their visa at or before they were 60. There are still some schools and universities that will take over-60s, but they are often in outlying provinces in the far north and west, where it is hard to get teachers. It is not possible to get a z-visa to work in China without a foreign expert certificate, which has to be organized by the company/school which has contracted to employ you, before you can get the z-visa.

For anyone following this post, you'll be interested to know that I have obtained an English teacher position in a foreign language school in Zhengzhou, starting from the 15th September. I found that it is easier to get the z-visa in some provinces than others, but there are also "backdoors" for getting a job as well, if, like me, you are well-qualified but over 60.
