My wife lives in China and I was about to move to be with her in retirement but she now does not want a future with me. We married in Australia but can we apply for the divorce in China? Still hoping to retire to Nanning

You could contact the Oz embassy in China for advice.

You can go to Nanning and get divorced at the marriage office. Very easy and the cost is 20 yuan I think. I lived in Nanning for three years married to a Chinese woman. That was the biggest mistake of my life!! Back in the States now. No where like home.

Sorry, but, my understanding is that once you are divorced, you will NO LONGER BE ABLE TO STAY IN CHINA, unless you WORK..

Hi, hope I'm not too late to help. If she is in China, a Chinese divorce between agreeing partners can be accomplished at City Hall quickly and cheaply with no lawyer. All you need is to sign forms and have your picture taken, you'll get a little red book that documents the divorce. You do not have to be married to stay in China, all you do is get sequential one year tourist visas and provide an address which can be a hotel until you make other arrangements. Divorces are free in Qingdao, and cheap everywhere. You will need your wedding license and should get it notarized by your embassy in Australia or the Australian embassy in China.

There's also a new 10 year visa available for US passport holders but I'm not sure of the details, China will require you to leave and re-enter every 60 days if you don't know your schedule and destinations inside China and when you want to come and go from the country.

Leaving China is not hard I did it for a year (every 2 months) I took the train from Nanning to Vietnam border. (have to get a Vietnam visa first at the Vietnam consulate in Nanning). Or bus. Both take about the same time. Take a cab from train station to border. Literally you walk across the border, turn around and walk back. The actually visit takes about 30 seconds. Standing in line etc about 30 minutes to one hour, travel all day! You can go to any country that is close. I was in Nanning. I got married and then my visa was renewed for one year, then after that for 3 years. I think (but not sure) it will be renewed for 5 years next time. And believe me marriage is no bed of roses in China!

YES, divorce is easy and inexpensive in China, IF both parties agree (may have to PAY partner to agree)...

Then, new TEN YEAR Chinese Visa for Americans is also great.

You DO NOT have to leave every 60 days, but EVERY 180 days or 6 months which, for a 10 year visa is very reasonable.

I have the 10 year China visa (obtained August 2015) and it DOES require exit every 60 days. I like living in China but this exit requirement is expensive and a huge inconvenience. The divorce info is accurate.

Yes, divorce is easy and cheap if both parties agree. It can be done in under 15 minutes, some places for free. If you were married outside China, documentation notarized by your embassy may be required.

Hi all I need your help if possible, I am married to a chinese girl, I left china i am not back in Canada, its been over 2 years and a half, we do not talk or see each other, I want the divorce of course , she does not want, what can I do, so far i have contacted a lawyer in china who said for XXXX$ amount he can get me the divorce, although I am unsure if I can trust this process.

If i go to china myself and file for the divorce in person, would that be a better route to use to get this done, I am at lost here, she does not want to give me the divorce, we do not have kids, we do not have split assests, nothing,

please help
thank you
