Hello gents and ladies alike. I am trying to find a job in china and have been lookig for the past month without luck, i managed to land one skype interview and after been told how great and positive of an impression i made on my potential employers i was rejected a week later due to my lack of teaching experience.

I have applied for nearly 100 jobs on sites like esl cafe, echinacities, xpatjobs but just not getting anywhere, most circumstances i don't even get a reply after i email them. I somewhat understand why, i don't have a degree but i am chinese and speak fluent english, i have lived in the uk for over 10years (still do) and have plenty of work experience, i applied for sales job, teaching jobs marketing admin etc... but i am stuck as to why this is so difficult, i am really passionate about working in china.

Which led me to think ... would job seeking be easier for me if was actually in china?

Any advice or even just unrelated comment would be very mich appreciated

Hello Sen,

I have been in the same situation before. I am Chinese-Canadian myself, raised in Canada as a child and came to China after I graduated from college. Below are some suggestions based on my previous job hunting experience.

1) From my experience, it tends to be easier if you move to China first and then look for a job, of course, that is only if you are determined that China will be your chosen destination.

2) Additionally, I would say that it is easier to find jobs in major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou etc. While I personally enjoy living in smaller cities, good work opportunities tend to be quite rare.

3) If you want to go into the field of teaching English, you'd have to spend some extra effort to prove to the school or training institute that you're qualified for it. Reason being that many schools tend to think that the face of caucasians proves that they're qualified to teach English. This can be quite offensive to some people, but you can't blame the schools, the parents buy white faces better than asian looking faces.

4) Two other websites you can try to browse: Zhaopin.com and the Beijinger website. Zhaopin.com is a Chinese website, if you able to read Chinese, you can give it a try. The Beijinger website is a local expat website in Beijing, there are some good jobs posted under the classified section from time to time. Besides the websites, you can also attend the foreigner's job fair if you do happen to be in China. That job fair takes place in a few major cities once or twice a year, you can try to google it.

Even though its not as easy to find jobs in China due to the competition, but if you want to live in China, there are definitely opportunities out there.

Sen I have been working as a teacher in Guangzhou and had no degree to this time. I know to get a work visa you need a degree or you can get a business visa in Hong Kong . I build an international team in e commerce and properties. If you like to connect and build up business income we can go to China and teach together private hired by companies. This way you can teach and get a higher income .
