Retire in Colombia. I have the same plans you have. I will retire and live in Colombia. Visa and work permit information can be found out easily by visiting the Embassy web site. You will be able to live well on a retirement in Colombia. The other reply I read to you says to retire in Panama or Costa Rica. Ha! You money will go a lot farther in Colombia. I know Panama uses the American dollar. That retirememt would be just like living in the US. I have built a house in Medellin and it is waiting for me when I retire. I have also invested in the Taxi business. By just owning one taxi now and a total of 5 in the future I will be living well on that income alone, not to mention my retirement pay. The FARC is the weakest it has ever been. I don't know what that other guy is talking about. Keep in touch with me at guy.craig@yahoo.com and let me know how your progress is coming.

Just left Colombia with my wife. She is Colombian from Cali. We have been living in Bogota for a few years now. As for the other guy I dont understand why he said Farc was a big problem. Maybe hes never been there. In the large cities you will be safe. It is like any other country it has bad partsw and good ones. Get a place on the north side (Autopisto Norte) It is clean and very nice. the malls look like the ones here in the USA. Rent should run around 300 a month for a nice condo. Little small but nice. But Colombia does has this thing where everyone getting a place has to put an amount of money in an account ( kinda like Escrow until you finish your lease) THe cost depends on the monthly rent. Is around 3000 for 300 a month. As for what the other guy said about Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica. I have lived in every south american country and most of central american countries as well. I will agree with him on why colombia. The only thing really good about colombia is the women. There are so many more than men and they a so attractive. But Bogota is so nasty cold and high altitude and just an all around big city. I would never live there again. If your stuck on Colombia move to Cartagena or Santa Marta. Very pretty and the women are just a good. Just as cheap too. Ecuador is a great place so is Peru. Peru and Bolovia are the cheapest down there and both great to live in. Hope I helped. Oh I still go down there every 3 months or so.

You are so correct. I just purchase 2 apartments in Armenia Colombia, and I love it. Planning to open real estate office in that area.
