" It depends on where they want to move you, if it´s a big city (like Bogota, Medellin or Cali), then you are probably ok. Living is not hard, but be cautious, think about your safety and try to mingle with the population. If you learn the rules and follow them, you will discover a lot, and realise a lot of stuff people don´t usually think about. If you go somewhere else, it really depends on the area and what kind of work you will be doing, some areas should be avoided, and some are forbidden. It also depends on your nationality, europeans, (and specially germans) sometimes seem to have much less problems than their american counterparts. "

" Stefan: I checked out Alex'' answer, and agree with him 100%. I''ve lived here for 27 years now, and have never had a problem, though the fact that I don`t hang out with the embassy crowd"" is no doubt also an importante factor. A low profile and a true interest in Colombia and Colombians are the keys. "

I used to live till recently for 6 years in Bogota and I agree with the previous 2 answers. Bogota would be the safer city and just be cautious being out of your home in evenings/ nights and do not drive outside Bogota during those hours. People and climate is very nice and you will receive advice by other expats. Low profile is recommended. My wife and kids also felt very comfortable
