Hey everyone im looking to live in Colombia, either medellin or bogota, for a year or two. I am a native English speaker and am fluent in Spanish and would ideally find a position teaching english (but I am willing to do other things). I contacted centrocolombo, but they informed me that there is a low employent cap for americans that they have already reached. Should I contact more places or should I just go down there and look for something? Do I need to gain employment before moving? Let me know and it would be greatly appreciated.

yes, you need to have a work visa before arriving, you cannot work on the tourist visa only (not legally anyway). its difficult to obtain, the company needs to produce several bits of paperwork in advance

You can only get 90 days on a tourist visa. I believe that you can do 3 extensions for a total of 180 days but I can't swear to that.
You might find a teaching gig either with a private school or freelance (freelance won't be legal)
To stay any length of time you will need a working visa.
