Is it possible to get ritalin in Colombia? I have asked several pharmacies and can't find it.

As Ritalin is a brand name, it might be available under the generic name, marketed as some other brand here.

Try inquiring for methylphenidate, but I would be very careful, for pharmacies are notorious for giving the wrong stuff. I recently asked for some simple glucose tablets (Dextrose), such as for when a diabetic has a hypoglycaemic attack (low blood sugar). They gave me something similar sounding, but it was for hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar), and if given to someone with a hypo, it would have killed them. As it was not for diabetic use, but for enhancing blood glucose for sport, no damage done. But if I had been diabetic, well, I dread to think of the consequences. Ok, you might think this was an isolated case, but I visited 6 pharmacies, and all 6 came up with something different, none of them what I asked for. So be very careful. If you were prescribed Ritalin in the US, try to get your supplies from there, even though you might pay a bit more.

And as you might be aware, Ritalin is addictive, so if you are getting the medication without a doctor's prescription, be very careful indeed. Not something I would treat lightly.

you need to research the internet for the generic name, then you will have to call many pharmacies. you have to be patient. some of the receptionists or assistants at the pharmacies are poorly trained. so if you call 1 time and they say they dont have it but then you call the next shift they might say they have it. Education is very poor, job training is the same.

anyways you can also try to find the brand name used in colombia via the internet using the generic. sometimes the brands here are similar to other spanish speaking countries.

loratadin is loratadina here (generic allergy med, again forget american brand names)

i hope that helps. let us know if you figure it out.

Along this same thread, does anyone know the spanish generic names used for atenolol and lisinopril?

Although I currently live in Costa Rica, I'm planning to move to the Armenia (Quindio) area in August, so am following this site with interest. I use Lisinopril and here -- I think Colombia too -- it is called: Enalapril. If you use the version with HCTZ, you may have to get a separate pill for that. joe

Thanks, let us know when you get to Armenia. There are a couple of us, old salty dogs living nearby. Bryan
