Besides "Craigslist" ....How does one locate and find owners of an apartment? I am looking for a one bedroom. I am disabled. I am limited in expenses. I can afford $400 or $500 per month. I was in Medellin in 2002 for 8 months. I returned back to the U.S. after my fiancee was killed in a car accident, in Cartagena.
Por Favor !!!!!
Is someone willing to help me out.
Blessings y Bendicion

Mr. bigjailerman
Are you familiar with The Hotel Macedonia Plaza ? Carrera 50A Itagui, Antioquia, Colombia +57 3622121
It is located in the Central Mayorista. I stayed there 12 years ago when I first traveled to Medellin. Would you happen to know what they charge for one room per day?
Thanks,

uncle jack. If you're looking to buy an apartment, I'm selling mine .. 3b/2b, 72m2, estrato 5. It's a couple of blocks from the intersection of Colombia and 80. 15 minutes walking to Estadio and a 10 minute walk to Floresta metro station. Half the price of same size apartments in Poblado. I've never had a problem nor heard of any problems while living here for 2 years.

Thanks for the offer jonrod, but I don't like the area where your apartment at , this just my personal taste ,it maybe a good area. I like more toward the centro or Boston area . It is more central and you can't beat the location . Centro is not as bad as people painted to be. It is very safe and property going up in value.of course depends on location. If you need help selling your apartment ,I can talk to my agent . She is very honest and knows her job very well as far as paper work and transfer of title ,clearance ,closing etc...she is like a lawyer without law degree .

No problem uncle jack. Boston is a good central barrio. I'm in central a few times a week. Eat at El Acontista and drink at Barclays in Union Plaza on Junin. When I moved here I first lived in Doce Octubre. Found a deal on this apartment and the area near Estadio was good for my stepdaughter. Now separated, looking to sell and start over. I may move closer to central, not sure.

Agree on Boston. I pay about $335 for an apartment there and couldn't be happier. Not as many gringos as Poblado and it's close to pretty much everything.

Oh and as for the OP's question, the easiest way to find an apartment is to be here and either contact one of the many rental agencies here, or simply wander around the neighborhoods that you like and look for arriendo signs in the windows. They will usually have a number you can call to inquire about the property.
Alternatively, if you see a building you like you can ask the doorman if there are any units for rent or for sale.
If you are only looking for furnished apartments your options will narrow by about 90%, as well as you will be paying more (obviously) for furniture you may or may not like, that may or may not have someone else's funk on it.
I did rent a furnished apartment when I first moved here. $900,000 a month in Laureles. My apartment here in Boston was unfurnished, started out around $520,000 a couple of years ago (goes up about 10% each year) and the difference in cost has already paid for all my furniture, flat screen, fridge, washer, etc. Plus I have furniture that I picked out to suit my taste.
So in the end it all depends on how much time you plan to spend here, and how "invested" you want to become.

I spent some time touring around the Metro Cuadrado website. WOW, a lot is available. From people's perspectives, how flexible are the prices? I've seen and heard how some properties are for sale for quite a while - do people consider offers that are 10 - 15% off what the posted listing price is?
