Is she using me?

Here´s an article from Los Angeles Times that got me thinking about a point that was made recently in another thread. ¨The long con is sort of like marriage¨.

http://www.latimes.com/home/la-hm-0528-laaffairs-20160524-snap-20160525-snap-story.html

And I thought back to several times in my own dating life on the East Coast, and how sometimes I had the feeling all she wanted was a free (expensive) dinner and drinks. Sometimes that sort of thing happens in Colombia, too, but its much easier to spot here, and I can usually nip it in the bud before it even starts.
For example I was online with a really great looking woman from Bogota and casually invited her to visit me in Pereira sometime, not really expecting her to immediately say yes.
Then we went back and forth on a date that would suit us both, and then she asked her to send money for the airline ticket, which usually runs about 300,000 to 400,000 round trip, but she said she also wanted to buy a really nice dress (for 200,000) for our ¨first date¨. Man, you talk about alarm bells going off! I politely declined, explaining I forgot I was already occupied that weekend, but we could stay in touch and be friends.
Well, guess what, on the weekend she was planning to come to Pereira to visit me she posted a bunch of photos on her Facebook from Armenia only 45 minutes from Pereira. It appears to me she was doing a long con to get money to travel to Armenia to stay in a guest finca for a fancy weekend....with a Colombian guy in her fotos. Hahahahaha, yep, my instincts were right. Long con.
