Another ¨It´s Colombia¨ story

My girlfriend has a bank account with a few hundred thousand pesos in it and she isn´t using it. She went yesterday afternoon to close the account and pull out the money. They told her they couldn´t help her yesterday and to come back today because yesterday afternoon there wasn´t anyone available to authorize.
This morning she went early and stood in line for an hour. The clerk filled out a piece of paper and stamped it, then told her to come back tomorrow to get the money.
Yep, it´s Colombia.
Jeez, in the US this would have taken a few minutes and she would have received the money right then, probably even with a pleasant smile.

The simplest things are seemingly impossible to Colombians.

I was in Guatape and went to a restaurant. I asked if they had soup and the waiter told me the daily soup special. I said, "That sounds awesome, brother, give me a large bowl"

He then explained to me that I couldn't have a large bowl of soup. There were only small bowls. I said, "I was here two days ago and had a large bowl of soup, so I know you have large bowls." But no. That was for a different kind of soup. Not this soup today. He said, "No es posible."

Now, I think that there are things in the universe that are likely not possible. Perhaps it's impossible to travel at the speed of light. It's maybe not possible for a man to carry Mount Everest across the Pacific Ocean and put it in Utah. But a large bowl of soup is POSSIBLE. Colombians say everything is impossible.

I asked him if he could sell me two bowls of soup. He said "Si, claro!" So I asked if he could please sell me two bowls of soup and then put them both into one bowl. And he did it. But Jesus H. Christ, sometimes they're impossible about the tiniest tasks.

There's a reason that Colombia doesn't have a space program. If a large bowl of soup "no es posible," can you imagine them putting a man on the Moon?

Hahaha.......and if you think Colombia is bad, you should try Panama. Colombians run circles around Panamanians......altho I do admit the banking system is much more straightforward here than Colombia......or at least used to be before all the new rules and regs imposed upon them by the private banking cartel which runs that once great country which is located the northern side of the Rio Grande......

I cant stop laughing about how true this is. So many things they feel is IMPOSSIBLE are so easy and mundane and they complicate bowls of soup. I just ran it by my fiance and she actually says its normal and natural here. She had at least half a dozen reasons and excuses for the kid who served you.

I want to yell sometimes but I laugh instead.

There's a smorgasbord to sate a glutton in the North American financial services market. There must be hundreds of US-issued Visa/MCs accepted globally. A good selection are fee-free and pay rewards. Nearly all of them are fully insured. When it ain't broke, don't fix it, just climb in the Studebaker convertible and tool on down to the beach for pina coladas in the sunset, until they light the tiki torches and it's time to pull on your Panama hat and go back home.

Oops, they have an astronaut Mr. George D. Zamka but not a space program. Who knew?

A Colombian astronaut named George Zamka? Why am I dubious?

I'm thinking he's not Colombian. He likely understands logic.
