Pensionado Visa Question

New Topic Newest First

Can I bring all of my paperwork to Colombia and either travel to Bogota and get the Pensionado visa placed in my passport or hire a visa service in Medellin to (with power of attorney) to get my Pensionado Visa put into my passport?

I ask because I am in Las Vegas and the Colombian Consulate that represents Nevada is located in San Francisco. If I use the online application process, I would still have to travel to San Francisco to sign for and pick up the visa. I have also checked with several visa assist services but non provide the TP-7 (retiree) service. In addition, I have tried to call the San Francisco Consulate but after about 10 calls over a week no one has ever answered--only voice mail.
Thanks guys for your help
Harry

You can do either, just remember to get your benefits letter for the pension apostilled before leaving for Colombia but not more than 90 days before you plan on asking for visa.

You can have the benefits letter translated to Spanish in Colombia ... it may be a little cheaper.

I hired an American Lawyer in Medellin. He only charged me a little bit over and above what the Colombian government fees are. The Soc.Sec. benefits verification letter can be easily printed by logging in to your acct. Give it to the lawyer and he handles the apostille part plus sends a messenger to Bogota for waiting in line, etc. He gave me an address to go get quick photos and then a notary seal plus later I had to get a blood test. The approval took about three weeks I think. once you are approved you only have 10 days or so to apply for your Cedula so you need to be in town for that. Otherwise you have to start over.

I always go to Bogota personally. My last trip cost 260,000 cop for airline and taxis. Flew there from Medellin in the morning and returned in the late afternoon. Gave me something to do and had a nice lunch in Bogota.

Harry, not sure why you are having issues with the San Francisco Consulate. I obtained my TP7 visa a couple of months ago from there and it took all of one week after filing online. You DO NOT need to travel there. They will allow you to send a pre paid FedEx and send the visa back to you in your passport.

My suggestion is to keep calling the main number and not leave a message until you actually speak to someone. Requesting an English speaking representative worked for me. They can walk you through the process. Essentially, you send them a check after filing online, if all is good, you then send your passport with return FedEx and you're done. Good luck!

Some of the information posted on this topic here is incorrect. You have 15 days once you enter Colombia to register with Migracion. It took about a week for me to receive my Cedula. The blood test is not needed for your visa but you will need to show your blood type when registering with Migracion. I simply had a lab in the US run my blood type and showed the lab result to Migracion with my Cedula application. No problems.
