First Experience with Medical coverage in Colombia (Medellin)

I have an RE Visa and cedula, I signed up with SURA EPS my cost for this with pension is $197,000 per month.

No coverage for the first 30 days and I changed the ips (the health center) from centro to Los Molinos.

I made my appointment online last week for today, not sure how soon I could have gotten the appointment, but this was the day I wanted.

I arrived at 10:50 am for my 11:00 am appointment, got my 'ticket' from the machine, went to the cashier and paid my $2700 pesos for the appointment and was given the number of the consultation suite. I waited in the sala for my name to up up on the screen, however 2 minutes before 11, the Doctora called my name.

I had a consultation with the Dra., weight, BP, respiration and the standard things they look at. My visit was more to check cholesterol and liver enzymes because of starting new meds 6 month ago.

I was provided an order for the blood work (its a fasting test so I have to go back), the Dra. also gave me prescriptions for a statin for Cholesterol and a new blood pressure medicine.

I received the paperwork and then asked about a flu shot, Dra walked me over to the immunization clinic and we parted company.

The immunization clinic took my details, $40,000 pesos and in 5 minutes I had my annual flu shot.

Then down to the farmacia were I got a month worth of both medicines (with refill order for 5 more months), total drug charge was $2700 pesos.

Tomorrow I will do the blood work, and they tell me to expect the results by email the same day, not sure what the cost will be.

I know that there are people that say the Colombian EPS system sucks, not my experience.
