I arrived at this Medellin restaurant yesterday at 12:15 and it was closed. It's been a couple months since the last time I was there. Anyone know if this is a permanent closure or only temporary?

It's only temporary. I saw the owner David yesterday and helped him post signs explaining that he and his wife Lexxi will be travelling to the States for a spell. They'll still be there intermittently until the end of November. They are thinking of cooking Thanksgiving dinner.

Thanks GB. That's good news. It's my bad for not getting closer and reading the explanatory sign. I hope that Thanksgiving dinner will be here and not in the States. Lol.

I night watchman and an old hound dog?
Anyway, PriceSmart has Bisquick and good bacon. You're viejo and you can make your own flapjacks. ;)

You can always make your own. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/216319/homemade-sweet-italian-sausage-mild-or-hot/ I always bring my spices with me to stock my home.

Yeah. I know. I make my own pasta. I make my own apple butter and mince meat. (I was so happy the first time I saw Ball jars in the Carrefour.) Mango chutney.
But charcuterie? I'm not going that far.

You're a dad, Andresen. Dads are born knowing how to make pancakes. Try it.

I can make pancakes, and waffles too! But I can't make hash browns or breakfast sausage patties!

The Viejo kiosk makes their own Jimmy Deans cooked to order; same with the bacon. It hasn't been pre-cooked and sitting around for hours. That has long been a pet peeve of mine. The prices are super reasonable and I can always get my gringo fix there too. Dave and Lexxi are a smash hit and a lovely couple.

Went by the El Viejo y El Pancake today. Was closed with a sign saying they were cuidando the kids. Right around the corner there is a little store called Panares Market. It is owned by Venezuelans that serve their arepas filled with different things. I had the first one on the menu and it was great. Not the same as the arepas here. Worth a try. Also there is another restaurant between the pancake and the Panares which is on the corner, called Terreo Parilla Bar. Looks nice, people say it has great food. El Viejo y El Pancake may want to take business a bit more serious and stay open more. The Colombians would just bring their kids to work to watch them.

peterv123,
Thank you for the tip. I happen to know about Venezuelan "Arepas." And you are right, they are the state of the art as far as the ones I have eaten... They were delicious. ------------ Although I should point out I have eaten arepas here in Medellin, very much like the Venezuelans.... with a lot of different fillings and all kinds of combinations. I will surely check the place. Thx - Eddie

Again, about PANARES MARKET, can anyone provide address of the place? or at least the street it is on (approximate). Because "Panares Market" did not come up in google maps/medellin.

Hell, just head over and look. One side of the street is the church called Nuestra Senora de Las Mercedes and the other side of the street is the store called "Weed". I believe they do not sell herbicide at this particular Weed store, although certainly your mileage may vary.

Just to mention that The Old Man and the Pancake has secured a new location. It will open soon - it is just up 70 and around the corner to the right on a side street. I imagine they are taking a break before making the big move.

It is in one of those garage type places. Don't know about the seating because it was closed.

Yes, it is what i refer to as a garage-type restaurant. (You want to open a restaurant? Raise your garage door, add a grill and a few tables/chairs and you've got a restaurant. Of course theirs is nicer than that.) I was there last week. They had a few (3 or 4) tables outside and 5 chairs inside at the counter.
