Colombia to Thailand

My buddy just got back from Thailand!

Took his entire family (5 people) for $1200 each, includes round trip airfare, hotel and meals. He stayed for 7 day plus 2 travel days. He used a travel company called "Gate1", and said that saw a few Colombians on the trip.

The trip was amazing and came back very impressed with everything.

I could not believe the price! He said it was a fraction of the price he paid last year when they went to Spain.

The travel time was a bit harsh (20 hrs total...Orlando, Chicago, Tokyo and Bancock), but "well worth it" was his words.

I wonder if you can get this type of deal out of Colombia?

Might try flipping this around, ask on the Thailand site if anyone got there from Colombia and how they did it.

Colombia and Thailand (and Vietnam) were always, mas o memos, my two top destinations for a year or two, or more, abroad. I'm doing the Colombia thing now, so my sites are vaguely aimed SE Asia-way now as far as a big trip. Keep us updated on this

Worked in Thailand for a while and was able to enjoy vacation there as well.

It is absolutely stunning. Best trip/vacation ever... You would definitely enjoy it. One week is not enough, really, to truly enjoy it. I would recommend three weeks minimum. The flights are the most expensive part. Once you are there, the costs are very, very minimal. Think $10/night at very cozy individual cottages (outside of Bangkok)

Gate1 is a travel escort company...and that price is incredible. I'm not sure Colombia would have enough traffic (business) to be able to get the 'group' pricing that a company like Gate1 can. Pehaps if you plan on returning to your home country anyway, then plan a trip during that time to get the better rates they offer.

Personally, I'm not a fan of escorted travel. I prefer to travel on my own time and not be herded around to only the main tourist sites and their chosen restaurants and shopping.

I understand the draw of not having to plan your day or wonder if the restaurant you choose is going to be the end of your day. For me, not knowing what I'm going to run into that day is part of the fun.
