How do the locals celebrate Christmas down there? Do expats do their American (Canadian, German....) things?
How about gift giving? Do houses (or expat houses) get decorated? Are there decorations like we use in the US or do they decorate differently down there?

Search for "navidad luces cali" and look at the images. It is similar so I am told in other cities, whole neighborhoods will be lavishly lit up as well as government/city sponsored decorations.
If you don't like or are offended by Christ in the manger scenes, pesebres, best not to come!

The biggest change is probably that Christmas Eve is the focus rather than Christmas day.
As always, any day around the holidays is an excuse to let off yet more fireworks.
Plenty of 'Xmas decorations up and fake Christmas trees. Most are probably up already.
It's a long drawn out holiday - very different to the US. Lots of people take a couple of weeks off and travel.
It's not easy to do a US or European celebration. Most of the stuff that you need food wise is tough to get (unless you want one of Carullas Super Hard Frozen Turkeys).
Was in Europe last week. Most of the stuff we brought back was to supplement what we can't get here.

Costco has Butterballs. And real spiral cut hams.
What really started to get to me this year was all the "Black Friday" - in English - signs in the malls. You can't escape gringo culture. You just can't.
