New to this website and happy to have found it. Been traveling to Colombia for 15 years and own a beach condo in Cartagena. For last 5 years. Visit Colombia about 10-12 times a year with occasional trips to Medellin. Love Pereira too and was considering buying there or Medellin before settling on Cartagena. Seen the country really grow and prosper during this time and traveling and clearing customs both in Colombia and the USA is a breeze compared to the shakedowns we used to endure. So happy to participate . Thanks

hola Boca, i have a question about Cartagena. I visited there for christmas and new years in 2010 and liked it a lot. The family I was staying with showed me around Cartagena and nearby Barranquilla and Santa Marta. In Cartagena I remember seeing a huge high rise tower that had been abandoned because it bent about half way up. I looked in Google just now and it says that structure was torn down in 2007, but I swear I did see it in 2010. Do you know anything about it? or is there a second structure that I´m thinking about?

Boca, you are welcome ! this site generally stays calm & informative...as it should be. Many expats & locals contribute a lot of good information to others. Buena suerte.

I'm actually getting tired of the cold weather in my little town near Bogotá. My gf's contract ends in October and we're toying with moving to Cartagena. It seems like more of a tourist destination than a place to actually go and live, though. I'm not into paying gringo-tourist prices everywhere.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with experience living there. Are the utilities reliable? How's Internet there? Power, too. Is water as big a problem as it is in Santa Marta?
