I read somewhere that apartment rentals are possible and easier without fiadors in Pereira (than Medellin).
Does this mean apartments in Pereira are more willing to accept 6 months in advance in lieu of 1 or more fiadors or does it mean just a month's security deposit would be accepted, for example?
Here's the thing: We're planning to arrive within the next few months but have neither a fiador nor 6 months rent. Does this mean we'd be unwise to come to Colombia?
I'm curious about this with the same questions for Armenia.
Thx.
Paul

If you go through a rental agency in Armenia they will want one or even two fiadores. At least that was the case when we rented from Alianza. But if you rent from an individual he or she can waive that requirement.

Yes if you rent directly from an owner you can avoid the fiador requirement and also negotiate a lower rental price as no agency taking their cut.

Thanks, Kee.
From my reading, when we talk about renting from an "individual", it looks like an "individual" is normally a house owner as opposed to an apartment building owner? Does that sound right?
Thx.

Usually individuals own most of the apartments in a building, and when leasing either turn it over to an agency or just rent it themselves. You can usually tell by the sign in the window, but as others have pointed out, word of mouth can be just as important in finding a place.
