International Trip Cancelation / Interuption insurance for Colombian Expats

I am getting a little desperate here.

I do a lot of travelling inside and out of Colombia and internationally,

Seems the trips have been screwed up lately a lot due to one of the following:

1. My travel partner getting sick at the last minute. (I never have this problem)
2. Colombian Airlines screwed up -airports closed due to rain, fog etc.
3. Colombian Airlines screwed up- Flight cancelled for "maintenace"

I am trying to find a good insurance company that would pay for losses in case of trip cancelation or interruption for any of the above.

For example, I am planning a trip to Cancun. If we have to cancel at the last minute , could lose $480 for hotel charges and as much as several hundred dollars for Airline tickets , depending on future ticket pricing. Say maximum $800 US.

Ideally I would like a Canadian Company, as a Canadian citizen, I could contact the Better, Business Bureau and ombudsman, or even threatening to put a claim in small claims court if they tried to screw me (I have been through this in the past).

But hopefully, this wouldn't be necessary, and if anyone knows of any reliable travel insurance company that provides international travel insurance from Colombia to other points internationally, it would be appreciated.

solved the problem . Thanks for your input BJM.

I went back to the travel agency One travel, and it turns out the women I first talked to was wrong, and got me going on a tangent.

They do have a cheap insurance policy for $55. But you have to have an excuse like illness, death in the family

I'd forget about it.

If the potential loss is several hundred dollars, as stated, and you have to prove an acceptable excuse, the numbers and the offer don't work IMO.

There were three scenarios indicated in the opening post -- girlfriend sickness and two airline problems that probably could be resolved without an insurance claim being decided in the claimant's favor.

Add in the rigamarole to set up the policy .. what it would take to collect on a claim .. and the maximum damage amount (above) -- and I don't see the wisdom in buying this insurance.

Naturally, the odds are not in the insured's favor. The potential loss is not great.
