I am moving to Costa Rica in June of 09 with a friend of mine. We are looking for everything good we hear about Costa Rica. Great people beautiful scenery and a less focus on materialistic things. We both want to work, I am more of an experienced sales person type and will probably look into Real Estate and he is an IT person with an impressive resume. I am looking for advice on Jobs as well as location. From what I have read we do not want to live right in San Jose but probably just outside. 20 minutes or so.

hey, guys, just saw your post and it's so close to what's happening with me i thought i would say hi. i just leased a house in the central valley two days ago and my be planning to work here too. as far as areas to live, i must say that this really relies on your taste. the central valley is a confusing web of towns that are difficult to distinguish and to be honest, most are not very clean or well maintained. i've travelled a lot and lived in africa and have been traveling to cr for about 7 years. i settled in escazu against my earlier predisposition to stay away from 'gringolandia'. i have friends here that have been helping with finding a placea and have been very very helpful in getting set up. also, a friend recommended two estate agents that drove me around everywhere looking at houses and condos. they get paid by the property owner and are fantastic at helping get other things set up. post an specific questions and i will help if i can. if you would like the contact info for the people that helped me, i'd be happy to pass that along as well. do keep in mind that as june starts getting rain and it increases through november, weather may be a factor in your transition. best of luck! greg-

Be careful, especially in purchasing Real Estate from anyone. Read Andy The Traveler's post below..he was in Real Estate before he began to travel. Aside from having your own online business, or teaching English at very low wages, without ADVANCED Spanish, work permit arranged by the company who hires you there ree few full time professional jobs in CR for foreigners, skilled or not, arriving "with impressive resumes" (There are many qulaified CR Citizens looking for scarce jobs now) view www.therealcostarica.com for hard cold facts.
In Guatemala banks have no money, payrolls cannot be met and Christms bonuses ..alguinaldos re not being paid to many this year.
I have only resided 23 years in Central America, what do I know????
--- Your vacation home is next
I have mentioned it before, however this is good time to reiterate my opinion. There has been a correction in Real Estate prices in the USA and soon there will be a worst correction in the price of retirement or vacation Real Estate purchased overseas.
There will be a 30-70 percent reduction in the value of your overseas vacation home.

The moneychanger have duped retired people in many countries on the planet now for years, the bubble will burst. The only salvation in this crisis is that many of these people paid cash and will still be able to enjoy their horrible investment.
Chang Mai, Thailand Playa del Carmen, Mexico Goa, India Panama Costa Rica Belize
The list is long, and I have not visited the whole planet, only 79 countries.

Hi Guys & Greg, I´m also thinking about moving to CS here in Feb. 09 but as any one else I have so many questions, so I do hope that Greg you can help. My name is Maria, and I´m moving to CS to open my own little echo-bungalow resort. My plan is to come down for 2-3 month, to have a look around, and to work out if CS is for me at all. I traveled her in 1999, and since then I all ways knew that one day I would be back and open my place. Now that time has come, but I need help so, help help help. :o) I´m looking for a place to stay and I would love to share a place. I also look for a job. I´m a cook and a travel agent, so I worked with tourism and food all my adult life. I have for the last 2 weeks been surfing and looking on the internet to try to find a place to stay but it is very difficult. I also would like to talk to some real estate agent that you can trust, so Greg if you wouldn't mind I would love the name of the ones you used. I´m looking for a place to stay in Quepos, but if anyone know a nicer place, do tell. Please give me a shout everything can help. :o) Maria

I made the same move as you for the same reasons. I sell real estate in Costa Rica and it is an excellent business in Costa Rica. You will certainly be able to enjoy a more "Pura Vida" here in Costa Rica. If I were you guys I would work together selling real estate. Let the IT guy generate leads online and you find the listings and sell the property! If you want some general information on real estate in Costa Rica check out www.costaricarealestate411.com. Its a general FAQ about the industry.
