Business ownership in CR

First, a little about myself. I’m 44, single, no kids, ex military, grew up in the country, and I’ve been to CR several times and love it there.

I have an opportunity through a business partner to buy a business in CR and move down to manage it. We are looking at Tamarindo but open to other ideas. I plan on coming down in August to do the ARCR Seminar as well as meet with a few people that I’ve been in contact with that have business in CR.

I feel it’s better to buy a business than to try and start one. So I’ve been watching to see what’s for sale down there.

Here are a few questions:

1. How do you deal with not being able to get a bank account until you are a permanent resident? Can the company at least get one, or if we buy a company would we just take over their current bank account?

2. How is business in Tamarindo, is it a good place to buy one, or should we look elseware?

3. Can you rent a place to stay without being a permanent resident?

4. Any idea on the length of time it takes to buy a business, are we talking a month or a year?
I have a lot more questions, but I don’t want to list them all at once.

Thanks very much,
Richard
