Are there any towns in Costa Rica in the cooler, elevated region that is close enough to the beach to make day trips? Thanks!

Thanks for the helpful response. Maybe someone else can list them for me.

Our project is from 700-1200 ft above sea level and gets a nice breeze from the Caribbean plain that keeps the temps 85 in the day and 70's at night. No need for A/C. The closest beach is Playa Bonita--around 35 minutes away. Once the 4 lane is complete it will take less time. You can then go down the coast is you like and have access to the beach anywhere you like.

There are several cities in the mountains that are close enough to the beach to make a day trip.

I live in San Ramon, a city of 60000 people, in the mountains, that is approx. 1 hour bus ride from the beach.

Even those living in San Jose, make a day trip to one of the many beaches along either coast. Puriscal also offers a nice town...but there are not many 'cities' like you may be used to, within the country.

Have a look at Ojochal; we're going to have a serious look at it next year! It's very close and seems to have a lot to offer.

6/5/2016 -- I just spent a month in Ojochal housesitting. It is a small village, with several nice features including a great ex-pat community, who pride themselves on contributing to the area and the people in many ways. 10 minutes or less drive to several beaches. Most services you need within 25 km. Relatively expensive homes/lots and few rentals. Many people have been there for a long time - 5 or more years.

Thanks for this information! I'm very interested in this town. How expensive is "relatively expensive"? Hundreds of thousands, or millions?

IF an hours drive to the beach is Ok then check out the little known area where we settled 26 years ago ...and still has its charm.where we are in the mountain air 10 minutes from all things important ( we decided on this area for many reasons over 20 years after checking out and living in many areas of CR . HERedia Hills (10 minutes from the peaceful town of Heredia..and 15 miutes from HUGE supermarkets, pricemart.Walmart etc. and 5 minutes from 2 famous bit not tpuristy villages friendly and safe San n Isidro DE Heredia ( NOT the Sam Isidro hours down south ),anf other side of my farm 5 minutes by bus us San Rafael de Heredia. BOTH vo;;ages have resaurans up and downscle Price wise and you will get more bang for your buck for rentals and Buying propety than in the gringo Gulch areas AND like us will learn Spanish quickly. We speak fluently good for our live in Gardener and family and neighbors and GREAT for bargaining for non Gringo prices for everything (a BIG plus )
both our 2 villages 5 minutes by bus from our gate have Organic farmers markets I finally found the PERFECT climate of 75 to 85 degrees F. with warm breezy days cooling a little at night for great sleeping weather .This area has everything close by yet has maintained its charm and VIEWS yet 10 minutes from MAJOR Hospitals )NOT local village Clinics where yu may die before you get to a major hospital... we are over 55 years so we keep THAT in Mind and do not get blindsided or conned by "realtors" ) all unlicenced so can "lie like rugs" (without having a non existent licence taken away,.as in USA and Europe etc.
WOW all this and more .Check it out More questions PM me Glad to help out with NO ulterior motives.
