This article this morning was written by a good friend of ours whom we have known for many years.

It is not in the area we previously lived in, but in little town of Bijagua one of many pueblos that are equally deserving to be helped.

Folks, this was not just a way to solicit funds, more a way to show how anyone/everyone can make a difference such as our friend has done.

Just look in your kitchen for 'extra' cans and packages of dry food, toilet rolls, toothpaste, tooth brushes, shampoo, talcum powder, mouthwash, etc., that will make an impact on a family trying to get back to normal, by dropping these items off at a local supermarket or Cruz Roja.

linlewhammond

Our church in Grecia is doing the same. We went there today to drop off packages of frijoles and there was a room full of rice, beans, toilet tissue, clothes etc etc. Also saw on TV yesterday a fund raiser going on.

ILuvCR

Arroz y frijoles obvious choice and we did buy some but my wife suggested hand soap, pampers, juice for kid's, salt, sugar and milk.

They need it all.

We also bought and donated a 66lb sack of dog food at the La Vete in Alajuela #2440-3210.

I read there are over 900 dog's displaced.

I am wiped out from washing and sorting and taking huge bags of clothes (including most of mine..to wear in the HOTTER weather remamber they will hardly need sweaters ..but T sg=hirts I sent loads and jeans ..all sozes ..Remember ROPA AMERICANA is selling HUGE bags of clothes for $4 ,they do need to be sorted and washed at least I think so ..not that the clothes are dirty just a bit musty from their long trips from USA.by boat I assume. As for food I am trying to be different than the obvious rice and beans I know many send and have gone the pasta route with spaghetti and the packages of sauce easy to make,,Milk yes pampers, cornflakes Pequena Mundo again has GIANT packages for 1.700 and lots of canned food at great prices.Sardines and tuna with the pop up lids I went for and Pricemart has large quantitiy of TOP RAMON a cheap easy 5 min meal , dry mik fromPricemart is goood but the large Plastic containers I decided to make into smaller batches with zip lock bags (same with cornflakes etc...Extra work but worth it whenI think easier to sort out to different families without squabbles Keep it up they need us!!!

Buenos dias! for those of you reading that don't live here or otherwise know better I'll take exception of the previous posters depiction;

"...Many Ticos watch them starve inthe street while eating there lunches ..wishout even giving them a spoonful.."

There are hundreds if not thousands of Tico's in the area and travelling to the area to help not only the displaced people but the animals as well.

It's an ignorant and misleading comment about the Costa Rican people.

pebbles, not that I care one iota what you think, just for the record I adopted my large dog from the Atlanta Humane Society and she's living here in paradise with me now. I also have adopted two "zaguate's" (street) dog's each from their rescuers.

I've also delivered lost and homeless animals to shelters and found good homes for others.

Have a nice day in "mundo de pebbles" It's cloudy in there?

linlewhammond

I cannot speak for other areas, but by the looks on their faces and their condition, I have to say I have not seen one unhappy street dog in Grecia. I have tried on occasion to give or leave them something to eat and they run. I understand that can be from fear, but many of them downtown are just on a paseo from home, and return home at end of day.

Also in the central market they are usually in front of the meat markets, often chomping on a hunk of meat. I don't see any of them skinny. And they walk around with smiles on their faces. I usually have some milk bones in my purse, and only one neighborhood dog who always looked unhappy in front of owner's house took one. He is now happier because I give him one in passing.

I've heard from several people that the dogs in Grecia do NOT want a forever home. They like their freedom. And of you try to domesticate with your ideas, they will run away.

Kohl

We now have four dogs, one that is now 12 that was born on the farm, when a stray that wandered in and gave birth to it just as we moved into it. One was 'adopted' from a facility in Alajuela approx 9 years ago. One that was 'dropped off' near the farm when seriously ill and I doubt the family could afford to take it to a vet and one was a 'gift...' to us.
There are also a few 'stray' cats who come around and eat any leftover dog food but don't seem to want to stay.
More Ticos have donated food for the animals than 'extranjeros' and are continuing to do so.
In our town, there are quite a few animal feed stores and it is amazing on how much feed that is sold.
Thanks to all who have donated for both animals and families.

individual, if for no other poster. Her
constant badgering and insulting of fellow posters is so offensive -- it adds
simply nothing to the exchange of information on this site. She is simply
vicious, and only contributes information on how wonderful and perfect her life is. As someone she has threatened to sue, I'd like to see her deleted and banned. She ruins it for all of us.

I am so happy to hear about the happy street dogs, and come to think of it I often used to take my B&B guests to Grecia and do not remember feeling awful about seeing any there..except for one or two in the park who were being fed by the local Gringos..God Bless you for keeping milk bines anyway. My rescues were all just skin and bone and seemed to be Happy to be Rescued to my farm (They died and went to heaven after being vetted and well fed.. and made their new frinds( I keep saying "No more ", but so hard to keep my word. True some of them run away and need a little persuasion to come to my car (usually after being badly abused ) and if looking really like they need a rescue home. But I am sure if in your area they are happy I guess and well fed why not be a gypsy ? :) I wish they were all in such good shape. I usually carry a sack of dry food in my car which not all will eat but if that is the case , I buy some cheap Salsicha which seems to give them a trusting look.
Thanks for looking out for the Voiceless which I believe is my reason for being put on this earth,,and seeing them bound around after bonding with each other on my farm is the best feeling ever. I wish they all could be so lucky. :)

NOPE its Bright and Sunny as alaways here with my many friends and my lovely families who also live on my farm so never fear I will as always take your advice and avoid, dark clouds as many others do Control freaks at the same functions which we attend.. I was never a fan of those as you are well aware.

I agree with linlewhammond.
Pebbalita has given some good information and I find this lady very entertaining.
For some reason in my mind I "see her" like the co-founder of the National Ballet of Canada, Miss Betty Oliphant for whom I was working when she passed away.
I've always enjoyed listening to those who have a lot of experience in life and I enjoy their stories.
Let the nice lady express herself but just don't sue anyone, Pebbalita.

Pombinha
  12/10/2016 05:47 EST

Correction:
I worked for Miss Oliphant until she had to move to a senior's condo in Niagara on the Lake before she passed away.
I still took care of her house in Toronto until it was sold.

pebbalita

Thank you for the compliments :) I g=had a good belly laugh at your comparing me to Ms Oliphant ..My friends and ex B&B guests found me entertaining and many guide bi=ooks refer to me as a "blast" or a "fun characer" LOl I cannot imagine why:) despite my background of comedic acting/singing in between my entrpreneuring etc.(thats just my serious side:) Is it any wonder tha I cannnot type?
oh well nice to know that many if you have PM'd me asking me to stick around I thank you all..Never let the sour grapes get me down is my motto. and as usual If my hi=onest opinions are helful I wil throw in my 26 years of experiences here..or maaybe you prefer to wait until I finish writing my book..I promise friends I will finsh if things would just sslow down...I moved to CR to relax and write my 2 books (One a tell all of my Hollywood days Whooo hoo ) but even as friends in other countries picture me lying in a hammock sipping a Pina Colada. it is far from the truth (More like a bag lady running hither and yon rescuing animals. and strays (Some of the 2 legged kind)
YES believe it or not I can write and edit and was an editor for a travel magazine for a few years here .They went out of business LOL but not due to my editing (I hope.:)
Again my thanks to all.. I WILL hang in , as I have made many friends here who do not perpetually suck on lemons (That does give you wrinkles ,among other things )

I have to say that I find it sad and a bit irritating that the last 17-18 comments on this thread had not even a mention of the "GoFundMe campaign" or way's to help the animals in need in the aftermath of Otto"

When did this become the pebbles show and how many other threads will be hijacked by the nonsense?

A simple "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" will let me know if right or wrong about this.

BTW, I bought and donated a 60lb sack of dog food at my local "La Vete" store, what did you do?

carolvaughn

Sean,
You are absolutely correct on this, it was just very offensive to me that this individual was permitted to threaten me
publicly without censor, so I commented.
Here in PZ, the Anglo community had a hurricane drive at our farmers'market and collected lots of helpful stuff for those affected by Otto, including dog and cat food.

ILoveCR or Sean like Pebbalita cals you:
Right now I have a street cat sleeping on my bed and when we came back from San Jose he saw us and he ran asking for dinner.
Yesterday after I fed him breakfast he went to the laundry room looking for me and was meowing.I thought:'I already fed him" (I don't like saying it").
Then I realized that he just wanted to come in to take a nap on our bed as usual. Sometimes he sleeps all day long!
This cat is not even ours!
We also had 4 dogs but they have all passed away (not in CR).
In our complex they don't allow dogs.Otherwise we would have one by now!
As for Pebbalita, when I saw the sign saying "Heredia" I thought about you because if I am not mistaken you live in Heredia Hills so I assume it's the same direction.
The same thing about Palmares.Since Grecia is closed by I thought about linlewhammond.
And yes ILoveCr, I also thought about you while looking to the Central Valley. Then close to Bagaces I remembered that Khol had lived in that area!

What was best is Dick Smothers was not teaching but was part of the class and I got a chance to do improv with him--the sign of a great talent who at 77 years old never stops learning or thinks he knows it all. I asked him about that and he said the only person he ever did improv with was his brother so learning with other people was much different. If you go on you tube and watch him and Tommy their comedy is still fresh and holds up perfectly. In anticipation of selling out our project I want to be ready to keep busy with stuff I love and teaching sales to Fortune 500 companies using Mental Toughness is my choice. My current mentor is a world class teacher--Steve Siebold. He just opened a new center in Atlanta which will rival Nightingale Conant in regards to promoting different self development programs. My real hope is to bring our USA type of entrepreneurial mindset to Costa Rica companies as they are starting to be at that point of economic readiness in which they can now really benefit.
