Is "road rage" a common problem?Saw this on qcostarica.com At the corner where the gasoline station is located in Heredia near Riteve, it is typical during afternoon rush hour to have one or two traffic officials directing traffic at the intersection. The ‘platina’ bridge closure has required additional officials in the entire area. In the case on Friday, the police presence avoided a tragedy? ?when one driver took out a weapon, ?that could have the roots at the nightmare traffic conditions this week due to the partial closure on the autopista General Cañas.

Amigo, please don't get you news or form opinions about our little slice of paradise from
http://qcostarica.com/
In my opinion its a sensationalist rag with lurid headlines designed to draw in the eye of the gringo expat.
To answer your question "Is "road rage" a common problem?"
No, I've been here five years and while I've seem some crazy stuff on the roads it's never been "road rage", C.R. is the land of "Pura Vida" and "tranquilo", one of happiest countries on the planet.
Try Tico Times, a bit more down to earth.
My opinion is free and you get exactly what you pay for!

I encountered a Very Rude woman in Playas del Coco the other day. I parked in front of Johan Cafe so my friend could run up to retrieve an item I had forgotten at 5 Star Salon. This Caucasian woman pulled from behind me to, I thought, park in front of me. She proceeded to back her vehicle up and actually touched my bumper and turned off her car and got out! When i rolled down my window and asked WTF are you doing, she replied, "I asked you to move up" and promptly went about her business. I was shocked to say the least! Evidently the one car length that I was occupying was too far for her to walk??? There was a group of tourists waiting for their transportation standing on the sidewalk watching this transpire just shaking heads. It took every ounce of willpower that I possess to remain in my vehicle and not jump out and key her car or just Bitch slap her for being such an ignorant asshole!!

Aalamgeer, I live and work in San Jose. I commute daily in, through and around the capitol between 3 and 4 hours daily. I haven't seen a road rage incident in the last few years I have ben here but I do see incidents of "road anger" a coupke times a week.
I have seen motorcyclists kick and hit cars that they feel have not given them enough space; I have seen a dump truck driver attempt to run a little passenger car off of the road with the dump truck driver hanging out of the window shaking his fist; I have seen drivers stop traffic on a busy street while they scream at each other from inside their own cars; I have see a guy on a bicycle spit on a car for not seeing him and I have seen a motorcyclist get off of his bike and invite a car driver to get out of his car and fight (the guy did not get out).
I haven't seen shots fired yet. Most of the time drivers shake their fists at each other and keep going. And yes, the Platina bridge construction is everyone's worst nightmare. If you plan to travel through San Jose, let me know. I can advise areas to avoid and the best times to get around.

So Sassytexan, I'm almost at loss for words but here goes.
Are you suggesting that "This Caucasian woman pulled from behind me" is an example of "road rage" or are you admitting that you have little respect for others by double parking, then swearing " asked WTF are you doing," and then summoning " every ounce of willpower that I possess" to not commit vandalism on property and physical assault of another human being.
If you're offering yourself up as an example of bad behaiviour, I got you.
If you're going to be in Costa Rica adopt the Costa Rica way of Pure Vida, tranquila!

No, iLuvCr I am suggesting that behavior such as hers is one of the main reasons people dislike North Americans. I was not double parked, Don't know where you got that idea. She could have parked behind me or in front of me quite legally, but instead chose to back her vehicle into mine even as I was honking my horn to let her know she was getting too close. She wanted to occupy the space I was in and the laws of physics prohibit that. My point is, she initiated the bad behavior and knowing my temper, I was quite proud that I did not retaliate. Pura Vida!

When someone else is being unreasonable, you have a choice. To respond in a way that makes it better or worse. As for me, I have no respect for the language that you wrote, and think that you have a ways to go before you get a commendation for the way you controlled your anger.

https://www.facebook.com/maxkearns12/videos/10201083888603369/ Do you recognize the music? Oh yea, they installed train warning barricades in Heredia on Thursday and one side was destroyed on Friday. Also on Friday a water/elec. employee hit train in Heredia.. Today in San Jose 2 cars had an accident on the tracks, blocking the train from passing. Did you ever ride the "bumper cars" at fairs when you were a kid?
