Many of live with a slower access to the 'net than others, but this article tells us, how bad it is, if you are using a mobile connection.

" Your mobile Internet connection in Costa Rica too slow and too costly? Feel that accessing Facebook, YouTube, Netflix, Waze, Instagram, Twitter and in even Google on the go is too slow? And the cost to high? Take our word and the results of a survey by the British company, Open Signal, you, we, are paying for one of the slowest mobile Internet connections on the planet."

Read the article below, especially if you intend to work here and rely on it as a 'back-up' system.

I just came back from CR vacation and was in the Playa Grande area not close to city/town limits and I must say I was very impressed my cell phone and tablet worked with no issues and fast. I am from Canada and have Rogers .service.

Khol wasn't the one who wrote the article!
My daughter was here recently and she also has Rogers services from Canada but sometimes when posting photos on Facebook from different parts of Guanacaste she found it a bit slow.
I have high speed internet in Playas del Coco but I must say that there were a few times recently when it was slow as well.

Okay, so maybe the internet can be slow. Lots of things are slow, and if you don't have the patience to wait a little while on the internet, you will also be gritching in the bank lines and everywhere else.

If you want instant this and that, stay in US. In CR, I have time and it is a P:ura Vida.

I agree with Lindyluvs CR..Some people on this site NEVER stop griping and discouraging people from coming here . such Doodle downers.. and pessimists I ave yet to hear them say ANYTHING positive about Costa Ruica and say we need at LEAST $3,500 min to live here..makes mw wonder just what they spend their cash on?? I an dohters live VERY well on much less but I drin a glass of wine very occassionally so no big bar bill which eats onto many a grouchers pockets and say how expensive oot is to live here Meanwhile living at the HOT humid areas where A./C and seems CAJA and Many other things are VERY $$$$ "costs a fortune and so seems everything else... I am not scrimping but do not have extravagant splurges, and seem to live like some others here and enjoying life as it is slow yes of course I Love not always rushing around as in USA (well maybe only some days of the decorating urge strikes .But as for the "grumpy downers. and "put offers:..I wonder why they have not packed their bags and LEFT ? or did they as they say easy to buy hard to sell mmm maybe bought in wrong area That is enough to make one sour..BUY one day I read they they are renting and in the next post I hear they Own property ..makes me wonder really what is their story.

Kohl,

To add another news article to your post, this was reported today in the Costa Rica Star:

"Costa Rica has one of the Slowest Internet Connections in the Americas

The Global State of the Internet Report generated by Akamai, the world’s leading Content Delivery Network (CDN) provider, shows that Costa Rica has dropped seven spots in the ranking going from the position 109 to 116, losing 1.2% of internet speed.

Twelve countries actually increased their speed in the last four months of 2016, while only three countries went in the opposite direction, Costa Rica, Mexico and Paraguay this last one had the biggest drop, 16%, averaging 1.4 Mbps.

Costa Rica has an average speed of 3.9 Mbps (Megabytes per second) while the average global speed is of 7 Mbps.

I did not mean to be nasty. But I've observed and listed to Expats griping about a lot of things that really don't amount to a hill of beans.

But perhaps they do the same wherever they are. The CR culture is a reminder to slow down. When you are playing musical chairs at the bank or post office, I often meet the nicest people in my wait. When waiting on that computer, just get up and get a snack, or wash the dishes. Make good use of the time. When you come back it will be where you wanted it to go.

Many years ago, I heard a guy talking on a radio talk show. He posed a question. What do you do? When you are driving down I95 (which everyone knows is nuts in Florida), and you look ahead and see the traffic at a standstill, and have to take an unwanted and unplanned detour,

Just relax and enjoy the scenery. Otherwise, you may miss something beautiful.

It reminds when several months ago, my husband and I had misunderstood the Spanish, and had gotten on a bus to go somewhere and should have taken the bus on the other side of the street. As a result, the 15 min ride ended up being at least 3 times as long. My husband was gritching up a storm about it. I just about had to put a sock in his mouth as I told him to just enjoy the ride and scenery.

Pura Vida.

Thanks for the additional information, NBN.

You would be surprised of how many expats have contacted me in a PM, thanking me for sharing this type of information, as this is what this forum is supposed to be about.

The internet is fast enough for what I do on the 'net...and I wouldn't move house, just to receive faster services, BUT many move here thinking that the internet will be same all over the country so they can continue earning a living...so all I am trying to do, is advising folk, 'before you sign that purchase agreement or rental lease, is make sure you can do what you need to do, exactly in that spot...
