I'm investigating living in CR, mainly the Del Coco area. Crime is a big concern, I've read some horror stories. What are your feeling on this? Do you have to make your home your prison to be safe?
How do you protect your belongings while at the beach?

You limit what you take to the beach...

Towels, sandals, sunscreen, a little spending money that you can put in a waterproof pouch in your swimwear or take turns in the water.

Never leave items in the car.

In regards to home safety, and if you chose to live a 'stand alone house' it could/would depend on the location, and most may/would choose to have one with security bars, to secure their possessions, if away for the day/night. In a condo, there will be a different scenario where there may be a security guard 24/7 which doesn't guarantee you will not be a victim.

This response is not saying Playas del Coo is the only area where these are common safety measures should/could be followed.

The same precautions we took in Florida in a house a mile and a half from the beach.

We did have a robbery. I caught him and he is in prison for 10 years. We had a very aggressive dog and alarm system.

I agree with Khol.
In the beginning we used to take a beach bag and tie it to the beach flag pole. The vendors arund it are very friendly.
However since we live so close to the
beach we go in our bathing suits and I put the condo key which is attached to a string (like a bracelet) around my arm.
Then I hold my flip flops.
