How easy it to find housing or work? Am I able to survive outside for a few days? Do I need a visa?

I'm currently saving up money and would like to go to Costa Rica from the months of May to July or August. I don't know how much to prepare ahead or if I will be alright just jumping in. I would like to be in the Guanacaste region like Tamarindo or anywhere close to the beach.
