I used to think that CIMA was a public hospital but my neighbor says it's a private one. What about Hospital Clinica Biblica and Hospital Clínico San Rafaél Arcángel? I'm mentioning the ones in Liberia! So in case we need to go to a hospital which one should we go? Maybe I should add: which one is the cheapest one?

I recommend San Rafael Arcangel in Liberia. We have had surgeries at Clinica Biblica and at Hospital La Catolica.

FYI, Hospital Dr. Enrique Baltodano Briceño is the CCSS hospital in Liberia. The others are private hospitals.

Many of the specialists at San Rafael Arcangeli Liberia also practice at Hospital Dr. Enrique Baltodano Briceño ,the public hospital in Liberia.
We have used some doctors to get a quick diagnosis then used the CAJA facilities for treatment when necessary.
Just yesterday, I am pleased to report that a successful procedure was performed there 8-)

Khol, thank you for your reply and I'm happy for you. That all went well Yesterday. Shermanwc, thank you for your information. I had never heard about that hospital. By the photos I saw on Google and map and get the impression that the Rafael Arcangel is not too far from the bridge (highway)I need to call them for an apppointment (mammogram) since the machine at Cima seems to be still broken.

You could phone them for directions, as it is a quite hard to find. Many staff members speak English. It is located in the middle of the block, but set back.
In October they show on their 'billboard' the staff dancing and celebrating the hospital Breast cancer awareness month....when mammograms are 50% less...

Thank you Khol. I only read your answer now. We are OK with Spanish. I believe the taxi drivers know where the hospital is. I'm just wondering if even in October we must make an appointment in advance. I know that if I was in Canada I would have to wait until 2018 to have another mammogram so that's why I'm not concerned!-They changed it there for every 2 years!

I don't think you would have a problem, making an appointment...even in October.

WOW Cima ??? you will not have trouble with an appt. ANYTIME because CIMA is the MOST expensive Hospital not just in CR but the world (I have Dr friends there and only use RARELY for expensive but thorough ultrasounds, MUCH more thorough than Mammograms which missed my BC for 7 years I was lucky to take it upon myself to go for.a private ultrasound in San Jose by a GREAT Lab (not cheap but cheaper than private hospitals especially CIMA) .I have been BC free for 18 years thanks to the GREAT treatment by Caja at both a Hospital San Juan de Dios and because of a malfunction of Rad machines many years ago :( I continued treatement chemo, rads and Herbs, in Liverpoool Canser Hospital FABULOUS and we laughed away the Cancer.. and with the help of the other UGH things) I went for rest of treatment in UK as I still have the right of free medicine in UK Wonderful IF only I could stand the cold winters (I found out last April I can NOT: although I miss my friends with their great sense of humor NOW CR is my home as the mild sunny climate in our area is awesome for me.. If you plan on using CIMA BE SURE to call for prices first..The other GREAT and slightly less expensive is La Catolica" near me just outside of San Jose. then there is Clinica Biblica the cheapest of the 3 mentioned.. DO you have Caja? because they treat Cancer patients very well and hardly a wait ..BUT if you want to know the lab in San Jose which FOUND the calcification that determined that it WAS Cancer ..(Despite being told that it was NOT by many Oncologists inUSA..who now say they changed their ideas that "IF the lump does not change and if it hurts it is only a cyst" Thanks to me and I am sure many others they now realize that is NOT TRUE!..So as for follow ups and discovery I (as well as my dr Friends in Many hospitals including CIMA ) recommend that Dr in her Lab in San Jose and she is a lovely lady and will have her secretary type up on a PC the results Immediately. Please dont MS me here as I now rarely bother to come here SO EMAIL me if you want to know who she is.. Good Luck and stay healthy we ARE survivors :) but not millionaires :) email extrapets@gmail.com

Hi Pebbalita, I don't have breast cancer! I had endometrial cancer but I had a total hysterectomy and what they call a Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy . The mammogram is just for the Caja's doctor file. I had one last April in Canada. By the way: Yesterday I had an electrocardiogram in a place called Sardinal and we really have a lot to learn from the Ticos. They just wait without complaining even though they started calling us 30m later. Very friendly people though.
