Yes, I read it.
What saddened me was that there was no information on the Canadian Embassy website in Costa Rica, regarding the Canadian that was killed in Puerto Viejo .

and on the plus side,
"The Public Security Ministry (MSP) confirmed that it will build a police station in the coastal town of Puerto Viejo, in the Caribbean province of Limón."

About 5 months ago, the Dutch embassy in Costa Rica warned its citizens throughout the entire country to be on alert for robberies. That alert is still on its website.

Khol, I thought that once while replying to one of my questions about how little help we get from our Embassy compared to the Americans whom get all they need to apply for residency and to renew their Cedula from their Embassy that you had mention something about him being your partner! My mistake!

Pombinha, I do not know what you are referring to when stating "the Americans whom get all they need to apply for residency and to renew their Cedula from their Embassy"? Other than registering with the US Embassy to notify them that we live in CR, we had no contact with the Embassy when getting residency and renewing our cedula.

Remember these are ONLY the police-reported crimes, which are only a fraction of the actual crimes. Many tourists do not report a crime for many reasons, like lack of knowledge where to report, insufficient Spanish, lack of time or better things to do on their vacation, etc. Pura Vida!

The US Embassy does conveniently provide a printout of SS payments, while the Canadian Embassy doesn't.
"Since 2012 documents from countries participating in the Hague Convention on Apostilles can be apostilled (verified, or authenticated) for use in Costa Rica. Canada is not a signatory to the convention, however the US is, so documents from the US not longer have to be sent to the Costa Rican Consulate or the Foreign Relations ministry in Costa Rica for authentication".

Shermanwc I noticed that Khol already gave you an answer. Yes, the American Embassy provides the SS payments while we have to call the Canadian Government asking for a letter and then if they forget to mention that our pension is "For Life" we need to call them again and ask for a second letter like it happened with us. Then we need to have it notarized or authenticated which I am not sure yet since I have to wait one more year to renew my Cedula. Khol, if you read this and in case you know I wold appreciate your input. My American neighbor got his SS info online from the American Embassy. They gave him a code.

OK, the US Embassy may help with the SS letter (which I believe can also be obtained online) - but that is not assistance throughout the residency and cedula processes. We used Rentista Residency, so we did not need a SS income verification. It does sound like the income documentation is more difficult for you.

shermanwc It's assistance for those who need it! Like those who applied for Pensionato Residency. I just hope they won't ask me again for another marriage certificate. They already have 3 in San Jose. One in Portuguese, another one in English and another one in Spanish . If they ask for another one it has to come all the way from Portugal (not an Embassy)and be sent to the Government there for the Apostila. I hate bothering people!

We, too, applied as Rentistas, so no additional paperwork was necessary when renewing ceduals...but much has changed since then.
If you contact the website I posted earlier, they will assist you, for a charge of course, if and when it is needed.
