Relocating to Limon area

I visited Manzanillo a couple years ago and fell in love with the area. I met many Americans who have moved there and started their life over. I would love to move and start a life there and make a decent living. I see that this can be difficult to do legally. But how did I meet so many folks that lived and owned restaurants there that are not from Costa Rica? Any advice you have would be welcomed.

Limon NOW is very very dangerous even the police will not work there afraid so crime is RAMPANT with heavy drug use murders etc..choose the Central Valley safer and ok if you buy a business and run it yourself ...

Increased crime plus the murder of a Canadian tourist a few weeks ago, has increased the police presence in Puerto Viejo with a new police station being constructed. However, I still wouldn't want to live in this area.
