I just returned from a week in San Jose for a little dental surgery. I will have to go back two more times to complete the process of dental implants. This trip was a surgical extractions of one tooth that supported a bridge, then a bone graft procedure was done due to not enough bone density to support the implants. I used Kriebel Dental in the La Sabana part of San Jose---and highly recommend them. Even if my insurance doesnt cover any of the procedures, I still think I come out better moneywise--even with travel costs. FYI.

Unfortunately all the dental work my son did here in 3 different trips such as bone graft and implants came to an end when everything fell apart. He ended up going to an oral surgeon
In Canada and even though the dentist here says that besides the bone graft which was done by one of his colleagues and he can't refund him, he will do the rest for free.
The dentist was the one who appointed that other surgeon.
My son is not sure what to do!
This dentist also came highly recommended and he has good reviews.
Because I don't want to interfere with the negotiations my son is having with him I will not mention his name for now.

Yuk. My husband had gum surgery and told by our previous dentist in Florida that the price there would have been over 2X the cost. His was successful.

How much per implant?

Maximoto,
I wish you well but I think it's too early for you to"sing" your success.
My son was very pleased too!
This dentist has a lot of tourists as clients and like I said he came highly recommend even by my realtor and by many reviews in the internet.
At the end in Canada the dentist didn't want to touch his mouth afraid to perforate his sinus.
So he sent him to an oral surgeon for a second opinion. By the grace of God all the screws ended up falling off which saved my son a lot of money had they removed them.
He had a bone graft here but it wasn't enough.
I remember when my son went to Facebook telling everybody how great his dental work was.
Good luck!

I wrote in the previous post "saving my son a lot of money" but in fact it saved him from possible serious complications.
Before the screws fell off my son sent the X-ray to the dentist here and he replied that he didn't like what he was seeing.
Now he needs 4 months to heal before he does any further dental work.
Even though he is coming here soon he won't do anything.

There is an on-going forum on tripadvisor dedicated to dental implants in Costa Rica. There are lots of success stories as well as sad stories. The forum started in about 2012 and has hundreds of postings. I went through practically all of them as part of my research and narrowed it down to three clinics for estimates. I finally decided on Dr. Kriebel based on his reviews and the materials he uses. I consulted with my own dentist here and he signed off on it.
I realize there are no guarantees, however, to my friends that think I'm crazy for doing it--I remind them that a lot of my dental problems are due to American dentists. I am sure that at least one I have had in the past loaded me up with unnecessary crowns. So far I am only to the extraction/bone graft part. I can say so far so good for now. I go back in Feb 2018 for phase 2--then phase 3 in 3-4 months after that. I trust this guy as much as any American Oral Surgeon---for what that's worth.
One thing is for sure---getting the procedure done here by a reputable oral surgeon requires taking out second mortgage. That's a disgrace.
