I'm moving to CR in late September. I live in the LA area. I have quotes from 6 shipping. Has anyone had experience or know about the following shipping companies: Alpha Marine Inc., Omega Relocations, Johnson International, APA Movers (CR-based), FlatRate International, Legend International Transport?

Hola Roger

I hope you are good. I think the best for you would be to work with a local shipping company that knows all about shipping your stuff down here. I can put you in touch with a Canadian guy who runs a very reputable shipping company. feel.free to write me at [email protected]

Yes, it is best to work from someone here as they are the ones who have to deal with the customs agents and duties, etc.
I recommend Charles Zeller. We have use him multiple times for different equipment plus our container carrying our worldly goods...

We used APA Worldwide Movers (based in CR) and were happy overall with their service. They handle everything from having your household goods packed up and crated in the USA to unpacking them at your domicile in CR. There were some delays in the shipment and delivery, but everything made it in good condition.

I had also contacted Charles Zeller - he said that we would need to provide our own crate and shipping boxes if less than a container, or for a full container (to be delivered to our house), we would need to pack the container with our boxes . We preferred the full service.

Charles arranged for the moving company in the town (who we knew) where we lived in Canada to pack our goods, then take them in the truck, to to a container.
No problems at all.

As long as you get some personal references, then check them out, you should be fine.
