My post was totally misconstrued. I asked about single groups as a source to do activities with such as tours, dancing events and other social gathering. I was not talking about locals or Ticas as mentioned. I was asking about expat who are liked minded.

May I ask what kind of 'dancing events' you are hoping to attend here?

I like salsa, tango, and American line dancing. But I am also interested to learn other styles from Europe

I honestly think you need to make an extended trip while looking for what you want, if traveling and dancing with a group is important to you. I have read of dance classes in the San José area, which is not a place I would want to live, although it may suit you. Note that most expats do not tend to venture out in the evenings, with the exception of tourists.

While finding people that enjoy Salsa should be easy as Ticos are great dancers and doing this in bars if there is a live band at the weekend, however finding those who want to participate in American line dancing will be much harder.
