BCR Playas del Coco

I just want to inform those living in Playas del Coco and surrounding areas that the Banco de Costa Rica here in town doesn't renew our Cedulas.
My husband went there Yesterday and they sent him to the Immigration in Liberia where he is right now.
He went there just to ask what is it that we need because there is another Costa Rica forum where expats were saying they needed a marriage certificate.
I know that Kohl already mentioned that it wouldn't be necessary.
Since we have to do this in the end of April beginning of May (our Cedulas expire on July 27) we want to be sure whether or not we will need any documents from Canada or Portugal, or if we need to go to San Jose for a copy of those documents.

A friendwho used to live in Playas del Coco renewed hers at BCR in Liberia, and when the time came to apply for Permanent Residency she did it immigration office in Liberia.

Kohl,
I wish I had gone to Liberia with my husband but I was helping an elderly gentleman with some other documents.
They didn't even mention anything about having to prove that we have transferred at least $1.000.00 monthly but we will go prepared to show them.
They told my husband to ask for the letters again about his pension and to do exactly what we did the first time.
The first time we had to have those letters notarized, then authenticated by the Foreign Affairs and then take them to the Embassy of Costa Rica not to mention depositing $40.00 for each document.
I'm assuming that we need to take the first 2 steps (notarization and authentication) but now I'm not sure if the documents need to go to the embassy again.
I have never heard anyone mentioning this before (Embassy).
I'm glad we won't need any Birth or Marriage certificates from Portugal.
They set the meeting for June because they are too busy.

Why not take a chance with BCR, with the paperwork you already have? Phone them for their earliest appointment and if they accept them, then all is good...

I thought about that too.
I just don't want to pay it twice ( 1 for BCR and 1 to them again for Immigration).
However it's worth it to check it with them.
Tomorrow we are going on a Catamaran but the following day we'll contact them.
Thanks Kohl.

Kohl,
Is it the Banco de Costa Rica at Plaza Santa Rosa in Liberia?

No. It is the one near the central square/plaza where the taxis wait.

Kohl,
I don't know how you Canadians renew your residency but Today when my husband called the Canadian Government to ask for the letters (CPP+OAS) the person talking to him contacted 2 other departments and they weren't sure if they can mention "For Life".
My husband told the guy that they had already done that for us 2 years ago and he read back to them their letters. The guy said they coudn't promise anything. So if the letters don't mention that his pensions are for life we'll have to call them again to ask for new letters. Nothing in our lives have ever been easy.
Also: The Banco de Costa Rica in Liberia gave my husband a list this morning and they too are asking for those same letters.
I need to pray about this.

Just an FYI to those following this thread. Not all BCR have a set up to renew your cedula. I have to go to Quepos even though I'm closer to Jaco BCR. Here's a list that do! https://bancobcr.com/news/what´s%20new%20in%20services/Residency%20Card%20Renewal%20and%20Duplicate.html
