My wife and myself are buying a property in Peyia, Paphos. Any information you could supply about move into the property would be a help. i.e 1. what taxes would be required after moving in 2. we will need to furnish the villa, is there any special places that you could advise, any sample prices available 3. Best place to buy and hire a car and prices. 4. Our villa will not be ready until november 2002, who would be the best people to talk to about renting until then. 5. what types of satilite tv is available and its costs.

Contact Andrew Sharpe at Cyprus Property andrew@cyprusprop.com or have a look at his website http://cyprusprop.com/about.htm. He is British but has lived in Cyprus many years, predominantly finds properties for people wishing to move here but he also finds rental properties, car rentals and will know all about tax matters with regard to property purchase. His wife also makes furniture which is very nice, I would not imagine that you would use her to furnish your whole house but you are likely to find some rather nice pieces.
My knowledge regarding property taxes is limited but I believe that once you own the property you will still be liable for Immovable Property Tax 0% upto CYP 100k 2% CYP 100,001 – CYP 250,000 3% CYP 250,001 – CYP 500,000 3.5% over CYP 500,000
Satellite TV is available here. For the full package with UK stations, full SKY etc you will pay anywhere from CYP700 to CYP 1400 depending on the number of channels, size of dish etc.
I see that you are from York, I am from Northallerton. I have lived here with my German husband and baby daughter for 4 years and we really love it here. I am sure you will also.
Good Luck with the move

Hi, I have a question I am contacting you from a TV show in the USA. Trying to find interesting stories about people who are currently living abroad both permanently and temporarily. They also should be doing something signifigantly different from what they did in their country of origin. Some examples are a Lawyer turned artist etc... We are shooting a story in Turkey and one other one possibly in Azerbaýjan or Turkmenýstan. I would like to find more stories in this region, Greece inlcuded. Might I ask why you moved to this area, perhaps your story would fit. If not perhaps you know of other people. Please e-mail me at nneurath@wellergrossman.com Thanks,

Hi
My best advise is seek professional advise. There seems to be a lack of printed material on these matters, and advise from locals needs to be confirmed. Tax is 5% on what you remit so keep all your dosh offshore. If you are buying you will need to furnish it yourself. House prices are getting high here. Paphis may still be slightly cheaper. Peyia is nice, but the nicest area is around Tala, where you can find an expat rural estate, with villas and mature gardens and relatively unspoilt. For rental, try the Cyprus weekly. Satellite is illegal here, but you can buy all the bits an peices, and subscribe via an offshore entity. Get quotes, better still talk to expats when you arrive. The greek satellite is called Nova, probably the cheapest.
Best of luck Victor http://www.geocities.com/vsaumarez

Hi
We too are moving to Peyia next summer. We have bought a house which will be finished next Feb/March. We have been advised to set up Sky digital here in England and take the equipment to Cyprus with us. I have been told that we will need a 3 metre dish when we get out there!! If you find out anymore I would be very greatful if you would let me know.
Good luck
