Hi, can anyone give me any information on moving to Cyprus and setting up my own business? I own an aupair agency in the UK but I have always wanted to move to Cyprus and run it from there since the first time I went there. My family is Greek but not Cypriot. I desperatly need some advice about anything that's remotely relevant to moving. If anyone out there can offer me any advice then I would be ever so grateful. You can contact me here or at lianslayford@hotmail.com

Thank you ever so much.

Liana,
Sorry but I can't help much with info on moving to Cyprus (I'm looking into it at the moment myself), but I was wondering if we could make contact/keep up to date with each other, as if I do move out there I'll need work. I've done a bit of childcare (mainly family & friends) anbif it was possible, maybe I could go onto your books. I currently work in education so I've had all of the police checks done (not even a speeding ticket!) Anyway, if you're interested, please make contact. Thanks
Hayley

I am not sure that being Greek will mean you are automatically entitled to become a resident. However, I know UK citizens just need to come over and apply for a 'pink slip'. This is a temporary permit to reside in Cyprus, but does not mean you can work here. For that I believe you need to set up a company and be self employed. You will need to show that you have sufficient means to support yourself, so you will need to open a bank account in Cyprus and deposit funds there. I use a local person to arrange all my affaires, and he is reasonably priced.

Good luck

Hi Llana:

I am 36 year old Irish accountant who is sick of the rat race so I'm seriously thinking of relocating to Cyprus (probably Paphos as I love that area). I just wondered how you got on and if you did in fact relocate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am planning on moving there on my own so want to try to be in an area that is not just retirees.

Any advice at all would be great.
Thanks
Dee

Hi Dee
Paphos is a nice location but the average age of expats living there is 58yrs old. Of course there are some younger people there.
Are you intending to work here or to retire. The working expat community which is predominantly more your own age group is concentrated in Limassol & Nicosia.
If you want any specific info email me on

Vivian

Hi
My name is Lorraine and I am 31, my husband and I are currently looking to relocate to Cyprus with our 2 children. We are looking around Limassol. I hope that someone out there could give us an idea of the cost of living (how much we would need each month to live on comfortably, our mortgage will be taken care of, so we are looking at things like bills, food, and the cost of insurance, including car insurance) Also where is this best area to live where we could be in contact with families of a similar age?
Any advice would be greatly received. Also Gary my husband is a qualified fitness instructor, any ideas of work would be great.
Thanks again, and look forward to you're replies

Do any ex pats actually reply to these message boards?

I see lots of questions but a distinct lack of answers or information coming back from them. The replies seem to come back with another question......

What is happening? We need some answers!

I note that Cyprus 100 is frustrated that no one is replying to the questions raised.
It mioght be better for people with specific question to start their own Topic rather than keep replying to an old one such as LIANA's
I receive all posts to this board on my email but often they are so brief or asking very general questions that it is difficult to answer with any worthwhile info.
I am happy to assist where possible but the more specific the better.
Thanks
Vivian

I'm looking for addresses for hospitals in the Limassol area so i can send my CV with a view to looking for a job in pharmacy. I am a qualified pharmacy technician. We are also requiring any information on local schools, hope you can help, Julie Gorton

Hi Sonia
I do not know any schools in Larnaca, I will investigate. To my knowledge all English speaking schools in Cyprus are fee paying as they are all run priovately. The government does not run any english speaking schools.
I will revert when I have further info

Hi Julie,
I have a telephone number of a midwife (English) that has just started working at the new Limassol clinic, they appear to be atken on English nurses which is quite unusual for Cyprus. Not sure whether they need Pharmacists but if you email me directly I will give you her number. I do not really want to post it on the board.
