I'd like to find out how easy (or difficult!) it is to bring our 10 year old Choc labrador to Cyprus. I know I'd have to get the proper documentation for him to travel, but my big concern is how stressful it would be for him. He's such a wooze! Also is anyone up to date on quarantine regulations? Grateful for any help/suggestions

I am sure your dog will surprise you and be absolutely fine travelling to Cyprus, after all he/she will only be away from you for about 5 or 6 hours in total and you can make up with lots of love when you get him/her back. Here in Cyprus the quarantine period is six months and the pet is quarantined in your own home, which is really nice. Have a good trip.

I am sorry to contradict the previous respondent, but we are about to go to Cyprus as a permanent relocation, and the need for 6 months house quarantine has been removed, as long as your dog has a Pet Passport, and has been medically cleared for travel by your Vet within 48 hours of travel. This includes tick and lice treatment prior to travel. We had ours treated for rabies for good measure! Prior to travel. you need to apply to the Veterinary Services in Nicosia for a license to import the dog in the first place; then they send the vet down to port of embarkation to examine the poor pooch (and charge for that ) beore letting the poor thing into your hands. I am sure it is not a pleasant experience for the animal, but it is not for long, and of course you are charged upwards of £600 depending on the size of dog (ours is a westie) to get him there. Shop around for a quote to take him over though. I was quoted up to £947!!!!!! Thats the same for three of us to move over there! Cant believe it. Regards Bill

Bill! Thanks for all the information - costly and otherwise - re relocating Choc lab Riley to Cyprus. Unfortunately since I posted my query poor hound has been diagnosed as having a heart murmer so things don't look good for Cyprus at the moment! Hope your move is successful. Carol
