Hi, In order of your questions:
you can ship the car over from the Uk subject to certain age restrictions (the car not you). You will have to re register the car, yes. It will then be on a Cyprus number plate.
There is no car/passenger ferry to Cyprus. By the time you have messed about getting the car and yourselves to Greece and put the car on a ferry and fly over yourselves from there you may as well just ship the car from the UK.
To drive in Cyprus is no problem on your UK issued licence. However by law you have to exchange this licence if you are a resident for more than 6 months of a year. just make sure you keep your Uk licence or at the least a good copy.
Re jobs.......as Uk/EC citizens, you can work here without problem . With your experience you may well get work particularly if you speak languages.
Subject to the amount of your capital you may need a financial advisor buyt any amounts in excess of C£100,000 will attract approx 5% less a defense tax of 10%.
There is a new EU law that states you can keep money in the UK or elsewhere but you must fill in forms at your Uk bank to avoid excessive tax deductions in the coutry of origin.
to save money, consider other areas other than Paphos as property prices are much lower in other areas, for example Limassol. Nice area close to town...3 bed...C£129000 for 170 sq metres. Just ask I can pass on the phone number and he is a very good english builder. Excellent reputation.
Another way of using your money is by investment property...the above mentioned houses are in an area where some of my friends let a similar house and achieve C£650 per month rental income. Plus they bought off plan and the house is currently worth over C£140,000. they have now bought one at C£129000 from this developer to live in.
I keep a Uk account at Barclays in the Uk. My pension is paid into that account and I then transfer the money to my Cyprus sterling account by personal cheque. Takes 3 weeks but virtually no charges. I do not keep any deposits in the Uk.
With regard to HSBC, I do not think they have actual branches but they seem to have some tie up with my bank here...Laiki Bank. (was called Cyprus Popular Bank) Laiki means popular.
Good luck hope you make it here.
