Hi, Ive just discovered this site and hope someone can help. We are looking at moving to Cyprus Oct 2006, we being myself, hubby and 3 children aged 7,10 and 17. We are worried about the 17 year old son integrating. We are hoping to semi-retire but he will be looking for immediate full time work. We are concerned he will not have the chance to meet other ex-pats his age. Are there any clubs/associations where he will have the opportunity to do this? The girls will be at school so hopefully make friends that way but we would be interested in similar clubs/associations for us as a family to help us settle in. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi I'm sorry but I cannot answer your question as we too are hoping to move to Cyprus in Oct/Nov 2006 and are faced with the same question, we have a 7 year old and a son who will be just approaching 17 at this time. When moving to Cyprus we will have to seek employment, accommodation etc and are a little "stuck/confused" of how to start the ball rolling so if anyone can offer us any assistance we would be most grateful.
Look forward to hearing from you and if you have received any more information of clubs/associations for 17 year olds i would be interested to hear from you.
Ally

Jobs are not easy to come by here in Cyprus, maybe bar work, or hotel work. You have to remember there is not much industry here in Cyprus....Plus with the language barrier it will make it difficult. My advise rent first for six months to year to get a feel for the place.....

Somewhere between Paphos and Coral Bay is an association called UKCA (UK Citizens Association). They have various clubs within the main association to cover the different age groups but have a vast wealth of information on their website to help expats move and settle in Cyprus. If you use your search engine on the internet and simply type in UKCA, it will come up. I know that they have produced a comprehensive manual on an "everything you need to know" about moving to Cyprus type of book. I believe the cost to be CYP15 but their website will advise. Let me know if it was any use and if there is any more I can help you with, just holla! I too am moving to Cyprus with family and 10 year old so I'm keen to impart any knowledge I have with others, including Ally & Paul whom I believe are in the same situation as yourselves!!

It is difficult for teenages in Cyprus....Friends of ours kids went back to the UK, as they found it hard to find work, apart from bar stuff. Although Cyprus is in the EU it is still a holiday island.

Hi there,
Do you know anything about jobs for english speaking nurses in Cyprus. What's the chances of getting employed in the health sector (with not a word of greek!) Planning a move but unfortunately have to work, so any info would be appreciated.
